New Version Released – 10.2.5

Posted in News by tharnett on June 30, 2010

This afternoon we released a new version. There are some very nice improvements you are sure to love.

This is the first release since the implementation our new Feature Request page went up, so if you have ideas or functionality you would like to see in future versions, let us know here. Also, vote on ideas your fellow MD users suggested.

A comprehensive list of whats new in this release can be found in our Support Portal under Announcements. Here is a short list of the ones that everyone should know about as it might effect how you do certain functions within the software.

10.2.5 Major Features To Be Aware Of

  • Automatic Historical Data for New Symbols – Now any time you add a new symbol to a quote page the software will automatically start downloading historical data for you. This is something we probably should have done a long time ago. Why would anyone enter a symbol and not want historical data, duh!
  • Database Compression – By default this is off, but if turned on it will cut your database in approximately half. Good if you want to store more data. Not good if you are using charts filtered for trade size. Read the details in the release notes if this applies to you.
  • Toolbar Customization – You can now customize the look and feel of the main toolbar. Remove what you don’t use and add shortcuts for things you use often. There is a video on how to do this here.
  • Volume Breakdown Efficiency Improvements – At MarketDelta performance is critical. Just the fact we tackle tick data the way we do demands that performance always be at the top of the list when making changes. This doesn’t mean you can’t bury the software by doing something really data heavy, but we are always trying to make it better and faster.
  • Profile Indicator Enhancements – We know many of you use the Profile indicator and can’t blame you. It’s a very nice tool with lots of great functionality. Check out the release notes for the new enhancements.

JPJ Trading Room – Free Trial This Week

Posted in News, User Tips by tharnett on February 22, 2010

For anyone that might be interested, JPJTrading.com is offering a free trial this week (2/22 thru 2/26). JP runs a paltalk voice chat room and educates his users on trading the ES (S&P Mini) using Market Profile® primarily, but also various other methods unrelated to MP. The free trial week is an opportunity for interested parties to come into the room and listen to him call out trades. You won’t hear him divulge much regarding why he’s making his trading decisions, but it will give you a good feel for his frequency and success of trades.

The room has over 200 active members that make up a good, active, trading community with a room open 24/7. After the trial, he charges $400 per month for 3 months, then you’re a member for life after 3 paid months. So if you’re looking for more direction in your trading, or just looking for a good trading community, this might be something you’ll want to check out. He only runs these free week trials every 6-9 months, so it might be worth sitting in on if you have any interest!

For those that sign up, JP makes his chart setups available for easy import into MarketDelta. This makes getting started with JP’s charts very convenient and easy for MarketDelta users. You will be provided information on accessing these charts once you signup.

Some additional information on accessing JP’s room. You will need a free voice chat program called paltalk (http://www.paltalk.com/). Once installed, browse the rooms and go to “Business and Finance: Day Traders: JPJTrading com”. I will email out the password for the room once JP makes it available.

Here is a video that will give you a good feel for JP and his knowledge of the market: http://www.screencast.com/t/dGOKGC3Nf48 1hr Webinar Recording and can be downloaded.

A Few Nice Enhancements in Beta 9

Posted in News, User Tips by tharnett on December 22, 2009

The most recent beta has a few nice enhancements for features uses by many. Here is a summary. Beta 9 can be downloaded at www.marketdelta.com/downloads

Profile Indicator Enhancements Description & Video
The Profile Indicator, when setup to display as a Price and “Volume” Profile, will provide precise volume-at-price data for periods where tick data is available. However, in the absence of tick data, which is commonly the case for longer term composite profiles, minute bar data must be used. The volume is then divided up equally among the prices for each bar. However, if the user is viewing 15 minute bars for instance, the Profile indicator can gain more accurate volume-at-price information from the addition of invisible 1-minute bars to the chart, which the Profile Indicator will look for and use if available. Prior to version 10.1b8, the user was responsible for the task of adding these 1-minute bars to the chart and ensuring that they were setup properly. Now, MarketDelta will automatically add these invisible 1-minute bars to the chart with the proper setup. In short, the user now will get the most accurate Volume Profile based upon available data without having the hassle of adding additional bars/instruments to the chart. The enhancements on this front have been accumulating over recent releases, but at this point, the user should now see the most accurate volume profiles without having to worry about any details other than the Profile Indicator preferences.

Mixed Periodicity Data (MPD) Enhancements Description
The MPD Indicator within multi-pane charts runs MUCH more efficiently when bars of the MPD periodicity and instrument are added invisibly to the chart. MPD then uses those invisible bars without having to load data each time it calculates. The net effect is a much more efficient MPD. Prior to version 10.1b8, the user was responsible for the task of adding these invisible bars to the chart and ensuring that they were setup properly. Now, MarketDelta will automatically add these invisible bars to the chart with the proper setup. In short, the user now will get the most efficient implementation of MPD each time without needing to be concerned with hassle of adding additional bars/instruments to the chart. This is a very convenient enhancement for user of the MPD indicator.

Version 10.0.1 – Top New Features

Posted in News by tharnett on November 17, 2009

Yesterday we released version 10.0 of MarketDelta and it has significant some significant enhancements. There are numerous new features and enhancements to existing capabilities, more than 40 in all. This release includes, for the first time, the ability to submit trading orders directly to supported brokerages from within MarketDelta charts and trading systems. While MarketDelta has long supported brokerage execution via intermediary software, Version 10.0 implements direct-to-brokerage connectivity and support for a broader range of brokerage clients, with more to come.

The brokerage feeds that are supported in version 10.0.1 are the following:
    1. Zen Fire & Rithmic (BETA) – To use Zen Fire or Rithmic, you must install the beta version of MarketDelta. This is available at www.marketdelta.com/downloads.
    2. Interactive Brokers – live trading supported in the latest release of MarketDelta.
    3. Infinity/TransAct – trading not yet supported but is planned for year end.
    4. Access to brokerage services when the market data source is a non-broker data feed (e.g. DTN IQFEED, eSignal) is planned for future 10.0 development. For now, to use MarketDelta to trade will require one of the supported brokerage data sources above.
    5. A list of brokers that use these data feeds can be found here.
    6. A video showing the complete trading overview can be found here. It is comprehensive and last 52 minutes, but broken up in small chapters.

Another great feature of Version 10 is a robust trading simulator that can be used with any realtime data source to practice trade. You can place simulated trading orders, observe the status of working orders, and revise stops and limit prices easily. As positions are opened and closed, the associated portfolio window updates automatically showing detailed information about each open position in real-time. Watch this video for more info on sim trading.

Product performance has been improved and features have been introduced for coping with the extremely fast market trading conditions that occur from time to time. More information can be found here.
